A march with the motto "The European Moment for France" lead through Berlin's inner city shortly before the second round of the French presidential election. The participants spoke out against nationalism and Marine LePen and her Front National. The march celebrated the open borders in the EU and the values of democracy and freedom.
Thousands attended the "March for Science" in Berlin. Among the crowd were also Berlin's mayor Michael Müller, SPD and the former president of the German Parliament Wolfgang Thierse, SPD.
The march starts at the Humboldt University and ended at the Brandenburg Gate in front of the US embassy. The participants marched against so called "alternative facts" and to aknowledge the worth of science and facts based on evidence. Other marches for science took place all over the world, the main protest was in Washington, D.C..
About 500 attended the traditional Easter march for peace in Berlin Schöneberg. The Easter march movement founded in the 1980's brought then hundred thousands of people to the streets. Now a small rest of allegedly left wing participants remain. Among them were members of the Left Party (Die Linke), supporters of Russia's president Vladimir Putin and Syria's dictator Bashar al-Assad. Anti-semitic symbols were used on banners. Far right groups as the "Montagsmahnwachen" movement were also allowed to participate as the critizised Pax Terra Musica. In speeches and on signs the USA and NATO were condemned but the march remain in silence over the war crimes of Syrian Bashar al-Assad or the occupation of the Crimea by Russia and the engagement of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine.
Supporters of the Revolution in Syria held a rally in Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate and near the US embassy against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and his ally Russia's president Vladimir Putin. While they condemned Assad for war crimes e.g. the recent chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun, they accused Putin to cover it up and for bombing civil targets in Syria.
They urged Russia and also Iran and Hezbollah to leave Syria.
They also protest against a small rally of about 30 pro Assad activists near by.
The annual ecumenical Good Friday procession in Berlin was attended by about 200 Christians. Among them were bishop Markus Dröge and archbishop Heiner Koch. The procession was lead by a 3m high cross which was carried by participants. At seven steps in the the center of Berlin speakers reminded the fate of people who were persecuted because of their faith.
Among the speakers was also muslim Seyran Ateş. This year no Jewish speaker attended the procession because of the Passover holiday. But a speech by former chairman of the Jewish community in Berlin Heinz Galinski was read.
