Berlin vigil on the 6th anniversary of the chemical weapons attack in East Ghouta, Syria

Several dozen Syrian activists and supporters protest in Berlin against the continuing bombardments of the Idlib region, still held by opposition rebel groups, by the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad and his ally Russia.

According to reports from residents, the regime is continuing its well-known tactic of attacking civilian targets such as hospitals.

The background to this is the ongoing fighting for the province of Idlib in Syria, which includes up to three million civilians. The region is still partly held by insurgents. Many civilians were previously driven to Idlib by the Syrian army and its allies from other provinces and are now trapped there. Russia and the al-Assad regime are accused of systematically carrying out a campaign against civilians by bombing hospitals and other civilian facilities.

Supporters of the Syrian opposition, among them many refugees but also Germans, held a rally at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to protest against a pro regime rally which took place at the same time. The opposition activists demand an end of the regime of Bashar al-Assad and condemned the recent chemical attack on civilians in Ghouta.

Supporters of the Syrian revolution held a rally at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate to remind the chemical attacks on Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus, four years ago. During this attack by regime forces about 1,500 people were killed.

The participants called for an end of the reign of Syria's dictator Bashar al-Assad and condemned Russia for supporting the regime.

Supporters of the Revolution in Syria held a rally in Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate and near the US embassy against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and his ally Russia's president Vladimir Putin. While they condemned Assad for war crimes e.g. the recent chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun, they accused Putin to cover it up and for bombing civil targets in Syria.
They urged Russia and also Iran and Hezbollah to leave Syria.

They also protest against a small rally of about 30 pro Assad activists near by.

After the Regime of Bashar al-Assad again attacked civilians with chemical weapons a rally took place in front of the embassy of Russia in Berlin. Russia is beside Iran the closest ally of al-Assad. About 86 People died from the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhun, hundreds were injured.


The activists condemned the ongoing war crimes by the regime and urged Russia to stop al-Assad from killing the Syrian People.
