Fifth Anniversary: Protest in Berlin against Russian occupation of Crimea

Several dozen activists gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Russia's occupation of the Crimea. Russia annexed this part of Ukraine in violation of international law. The international community reacted with sanctions against Russia.

The participants also demanded the release of hundreds of political prisoners from Russian custody.

Vira Savchenko, the sister of Nadiya Savchenko, a Ukrainian military pilot, who was initially imprisoned in Russia and is now in prison in Ukraine, is also taking part in the rally.

Rally in Berlin to free Oleg Sentsov

Ukrainian and Russian activists gathered in Berlin in support of the Ukrainian allegedly political prisoner Oleg Sentsov who serves a 20 year time of prison in Russia. Sentsov started an unlimited hunger strike to free the at least 60 other political prisoners in Russia.

Activists also called for a boycot of the football world championship in Russia and demanded Russia to leave Crimea.

Berlin: Remembrance of the nuclear disaster at Fukushima

Hundreds attended a march in Berlin to remind of the disasters of Fukushima, Japan and Tchernobyl, at that time Sovietunion. On the day before the seventh anniversary of the melt down of the nuclear power plant in Japanese Fukushima the activists urged a soon end of the civil and military usage of nuclear power.
