Tens of thousands protest against Article 13 in Berlin

Tens of thousands protest against Article 13 in Berlin

Up to 40,000 people took part in a demonstration through Berlin against the planned reform of copyright law at European level.

The main point of criticism was the planned Article 13 of the reform, which obliges Internet providers to remove copyright-protected, unlicensed content. The protesters feared that this would be done by means of upload filters, which are technically imperfect on the one hand, but could also be used specifically to censor content on the other.

At the same time, similar protests took place in numerous cities in Europe.

Around 2500 people took part in a demonstration under the motto "Berlin against 13" against the planned reform of copyright law. The alliance had called "Berlin gegen 13". The participants feared a restriction of freedom of expression by Article 13 of the planned European copyright reform. This could result in upload filters that contain technical errors or could deliberately be misused for censorship.
