Thousands at Pulse of Europe in Berlin

Thousands at Pulse of Europe in Berlin

About 6,500 people gathered the seventh pulse of Europe rally in Berlin. The pro-European movement in the EU is opposed to nationalism, right-wing populism and stands for open borders. The upcoming Brexit was heavily criticized. The rally took place one day after the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

A symbolic border barrier was sawn through.

The speakers recalled where nationalism and far right-wing Europe had led Europe in the 20th century with the Second World War and Auschwitz. Photographer Wolfgang Tillmans presented his poster campaign and Lea Rosh (who fought for the Holocaust memorial in Berlin) talked about the fate of her father in the Second World War. Other speakers recalled the bombings on Berlin or talked about their relations across the European frontiers.
